Overview
This short 12 km stage serves as a transition from the Navaricë highlands toward the Blue Eye (Syri i Kaltër) natural park. The hike takes about 4 hours and has a light difficulty level. It is characterized by village roads, the upper grazing lands of Navaricë pass and the shade of plane trees, concluding at one of the area's most stunning and visited natural monuments, the “Blue Eye” karst spring and lake.
Trail profile

Trail description
You leave Navaricë by walking the village road, threading past old and new houses before doubling back to the river and following it upstream beneath the shade of ancient plane trees, their roots drinking from the same springs that give this village its name. Shade onward is scarce, so make sure to protect yourself from the sun.
After crossing a dry creek bed, the path turns right and climbs upward along a dirt road, passing the simple, unhurried world of Çumani — a bio farm where flocks of sheep drift across the hillside with little concern for passing hikers. The road continues past the farm and up toward the Navaricë Pass, and from the top the descent begins, winding down into the valley toward Krongji in long, looping curves.
The trail then picks up the right bank of the artificial lake, following the water as it leads you — round and round the lake — all the way to the entrance of the Blue Eye, the origin of the Bistrica River, where the natural monument and its accommodation options mark the end of the stage. Enjoy the colorful reward!

The Blue Eye, Bistrica River & Lake
A deep karst spring, emerging from the depths of the “Wide Mountain” (the city of Gjirokastra lies on the other side), a popular tourist spot and the origin of the Bistrica River. In the '70s, the river was diverted for agricultural purposes, interrupting the fresh water supply of the Butrint Lagoon. The Dam of Bistrica created the Blue Eye lake, near the spring, which today offers kayaking trips that get you closer to the incredible colors and underwater algae of the lake.
